HC Deb 22 January 1979 vol 961 cc55-6W
Mr. Forman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) when all radiation workers in the United Kingdom, both past and present, will be included in the National Radiological Protection Board National Registry for Radiation Workers; and what is his estimate of the total number of workers who would then be included;

(2) when data on workers who left the nuclear industry before 1 January 1976 will be included in the National Radio- logical Protection Board National Registry for Radiation Workers.

Mr. Moyle

I understand that the National Radiological Protection Board's objective is to register information on all workers monitored for radiation in the United Kingdom. It is estimated that some 130,000 workers, both past and present, could eventually be covered. Two major employers in the nuclear industry, British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, announced last November that they would be undertaking a study of workers who left their employ before 1 January 1976. It is, however, too early to say when data relating to all present or all past workers will be included in the registry.
