HC Deb 22 January 1979 vol 961 c54W
Mr. Gould

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what would be the effect on United Kingdom food prices, both generally and in respect of those products covered by the common agricultural policy, if the French proposals to eliminate monetary compensatory amounts were accepted.

Mr. Bishop

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 15 January to my hon. Friend the Member for Newham, South (Mr. Spearing). This relates to food prices generally. I regret that it is not possible to isolate satisfactorily the effect of phasing out monetary compensatory amounts on the prices of products covered by the common agricultural policy from the effect on food prices generally, because of the large number of composite and intermediate products.—[Vol. 960, c.650–51.]
