§ Mr. Tebbitasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the total Government revenue from all taxes and national insurance contributions in 1978, expressed in terms of 1976 prices.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 18 January 1979; Vol. 860, c. 868], gave the following information:
Figures for the whole of 1978 are not yet available. In the first three quarters of 1978 total Government revenue from all taxes and national insurance contributions was £33,800 million in 1976 prices. An estimate for 1978–79 was given in a reply to the hon. Member for Blaby (Mr. Lawson)—[official Report, 16 November 1978: c. 325]; in 1976 prices this would be £37,800 million. In both cases the current prices values have been deflated by the growth, since 1976, in the implicit price index for GDP at market prices.
