HC Deb 17 January 1979 vol 960 cc817-8W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what agreements have been made between the EEC and China; what meetings have been planned for an EEC-China committee, and for what purposes; and to whom the EEC representatives on this committee are accountable.

Mr. Judd:

The European Economic Community and the Peoples Republic of China signed an agreement to develop trade and economic relations on 3rd April 1978 (Cmnd. 7301). The EEC/China Joint Committee for Trade set up under the agreement is due to meet for the first time in the spring, but no firm arrangements have yet been made. The tasks of the committee are set out in the agreement: they relate to the smooth functioning of the agreement in the development of trade. The EEC representatives on the committee are accountable to the Council of Ministers of the EEC.
