§ Mr. BishopThe implications of enlargement of the EEC were assessed in the memorandum submitted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to the Select Committee on European Legislation on 7th March 1978. The main areas of my Department's responsibilities which will be affected are those concerned with the common agricultural policy, the common fisheries policy, the United Kingdom agriculture, horticulture and fishing industries, and the supply of food and drink to United Kingdom processors, distributors and consumers. I have arranged for the division responsible within my Department to obtain information on the agriculture, fishery and food industries of the applicant States, to co-ordinate a view on the problems and opportunities which will arise for the United Kingdom and to keep in touch with the Community's preparation for enlargement in these sectors.
