§ Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his latest estimate of the average weekly cost of travelling to and from work, in the United Kingdom as a whole and in each of the main regions.
§ Mr. HoramThe estimate of £1.70 per week given on 6 December 1977 was derived from the results of the national travel survey carried out in 1975–76. A more recent estimate will not be available until the results of the present survey are completed later this year. The small sample size used in the survey will not allow reliable estimates to be made for main regions.
