HL Deb 22 February 1979 vol 398 cc2078-9WA
Lord ORR-EWING

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the average earnings, with overtime, of full-time ancillary workers in the Health Service; and what percentage of these are earning less than £40 per week.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

Based on a survey of National Health Service Ancillary Staff payrolls, the estimated average weekly gross earnings for men are £65 and £54 for women. These figures are exclusive of London Weighting and relate only to those who work a full standard working week of 40 hours. There are no full-time ancillaries of either sex earning less than £40 a week; the basic wage of the lowest grade is £42.40 a week.
