§ Mr. Joel BarnettThe table below shows figures of identifiable public expenditure on Government lending to nationalised industries in England, Scotland and Wales, respectively, in £ million and £ per head, for 1975–76 to 1977–78. The figures are consistent with those given in the answer to my hon. Friend the member for Gravesend (Mr. Ovenden) 17 January 1979.—[Vol. 960, cc. 781–94.] Total Government net lending to nationalised industries is allocated to countries, industry by industry, pro rata to their identifiable capital investment, and the amounts attributed to each country fluctuate from year to year because of the variability both of the aggregate lending figures and of the incidence of expenditure on large capital projects in particular countries. Not all of the industries' investment, and therefore not all Government lending to them, is allocated to particular countries.
