HC Deb 20 February 1979 vol 963 c176W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the present policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the adoption by Great Britain of a European passport; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Tomlinson

No decision has yet been taken about the issue of a European passport, and, as the House has been informed on previous occasions, we accept that it is proper that the House should be given an opportunity to debate the matter before Parliament are finally committed on the issue.

The question remains under discussion in the European Community, and there have been no recent developments.
