§ Mr. Douglas-Mannasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will publish figures showing the relative effectiveness in the prevention of accidents to pedestrians of pedestrian-controlled traffic stop lights and pelican flashing lights.
§ Mr. HoramPelican crossings replaced the old type pedestrian-controlled traffic signal crossing because they are better suited to modern traffic conditions. Apart 73W from a few installations that have not yet been converted, signals of the old type are used mainly to meet very special requirements, where a pelican crossing would be unsuitable. Available accident figures do not distinguish between the two types of crossing.
