asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (a) To confirm the number of Harrier aircraft to be sold to China.
  2. (b) On what date the first Harrier will be delivered.

Discussions are in progress between British Aerospace and the Chinese on a wide range of issues concerning the possible purchase of Harrier aircraft by China. It is, therefore, not possible to say how many aircraft might be sold or when the first might be delivered. Indeed, it has been the practice of successive Governments not to disclose such detailed information on individual orders.
