HL Deb 19 February 1979 vol 398 c1683WA
Baroness MACLEOD of BORVE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What research they have carried out as to the number of people whose lives have been saved because they were not wearing car seat belts or who have suffered injury or death because of wearing them, since 1960; when was such research (if any) carried out; and by whom.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Baroness Stedman)

The questions have been studied in the context of wider research. I would refer the noble Baroness to "The effectiveness of seat belts in reducing injuries to car occupants" by C. A. Hobbs (TRRL Report 811 of 1978), a copy of which has been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
