HL Deb 14 February 1979 vol 398 cc1388-9WA
Lord TREFGARNE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When, if at all, they intend to introduce an Order to provide for the imposition of an upper age limit of 60 for most professional pilots.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER SECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Baroness Stedman)

The Government understand that the Civil Aviation Authority have informed interested bodies that they have decided to recommend to the Government that the Air Navigation Order should be amended to provide for an upper age limit of 60 for most professional pilots. The Authority have said that they will recommend that the change should not take effect until 1st April 1981 and that it should not apply in respect of carriage of cargo in aircraft not exceeding 5,700 Kg MTWA. The Government will consider the Authority's recommendation when it is received.
