§ Mr. Bodyasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will give an estimate of the cost to the Treasury for each year since 1971–72 of supporting agriculture by the system of deficiency payments previously in use so as to enable farming net income to have been the same as published in the Annual Review.
§ Mr. BishopI cannot offer any satisfactory estimates, because they would depend on assumptions about the levels578W of market prices which would have applied in trading conditions entriely different from those which prevailed in practice.
