§ 49. Mr. Jayasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what were the salary and expenses, respectively, expressed in £ sterling, paid to EEC Commissioner Haferkamp in 1978.
§ Mr. JuddMr. Haferkamp's basic annual salary as a vice-president of the Commission expressed in £ sterling and with effect from 1 July 1978 is £63,966 gross, £42,212 after tax. A vice-president is also entitled to tax-free allowances totalling £17,189 plus an allowance of £739 for each child.
A common representational fund of £195,000 is allocated for the expenses of all the Commissioners from which sub-allocations are made to each Commissioner. I have no information on how much of this was allocated to Mr. Haferkamp.
