Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the total number of manual, manual skilled and non-manual unskilled workers employed by Welsh local authorities and area health authorities.

In September 1978, the latest date for which information is available from the Joint Manpower Watch Survey, it is provisionally estimated that the total number of full-time and part-time manual workers, excluding those engaged under the job creation programme, employed by Welsh local authorities was 72,000. Non-manual employees totalled 81,104. Separate numbers of skilled and unskilled workers are not available.

The number of full-time and part-time manual workers employed by area health authorities in September 1978, in Wales, totalled 17,679. The number of non-
