HL Deb 12 February 1979 vol 398 cc1086-7WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the insecticide "Gusathion" is dangerous if ingested by humans or animals: and what regulations cover the use of organic phosphate compound sprays.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

Gusathion, which is a trade name for azinphosmethyl, an organophosphorous insecticide, is dangerous if ingested by humans or animals. There are precautions prescribed in Part III of the Health and Safety (Agriculture) (Poisonous Substances) Regulations and in the Pharmacy and Poisons Act 1933. All pesticides are in any case subject to prior clearance under the Pesticides Safety Precautions Scheme, which ensures that those approved for use are labelled with appropriate safety precautions designed to avoid risk to humans and to animals.
