§ 13. Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the current level of applications for admission to universities and polytechnics in the autumn of 1979; and how this compares with the corresponding figures for 1978 and 1977.
§ Mr. OakesMy 15 December 1978, the most recent date for which information is available, the Universities Central Council on Admissions had received 150,492 application forms for undergraduate courses. This represented a 7 per cent. rise over the number received by the same time in the previous year when the level was just over 1 per cent. higher than the number received by the same time in the year before that. Similar information is not collected centrally for university postgraduates or for students applying for admission to polytechnics.
