§ Miss Margaret JacksonResponsibility for the provision of education in schools, including special provision for children who need it, rests with local education authorities. A survey of provision for children with speech defects is being conducted by Her Majesty's Inspectors of Schools and is nearing completion. In addition, my Department has recently made a grant of up to £6,000 per annum for a period of three years to help the Invalid Children's Aid Association to establish a comprehensive register of units catering for the educational needs of these children.
