HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 cc66-7W
32. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on plans for future expansion of petrochemical industrial complexes in Scotland.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

The Government recognise the important contribution to be made by the petrochemical industry to the prospects of the United Kingdom economy and are anxious to encourage its development. The promotion of particular schemes for expansion are, however, matters for the commercial judgment of the companies concerned, while it would be inappropriate for me to comment on proposals which are now, or are likely to be, for decision under planning procedures.
