The table below gives provisional estimates of identifiable public expenditure per head by central government in 1977–78, in England, Scotland and Wales, for each of the main Departments. The term "identifiable expenditure" was explained in the Answer to the hon. Member for Gravesend on 17 January 1979—[Vol. 960, c. 781–93].

£14,000 at 40 per cent., £14,001 to £17,000 at 45 per cent., £17,001 to £21,000 at 50 per cent, £21,001 at £25,000 at 55 per cent., and over £25,001 at 60 per cent.
