HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 c61W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he proposes to take to effect a reduction in the high perinatal and neonatal mortality rates in the area of the Cheshire area health authority; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moyle

The perinatal and neonatal mortality rates in the Cheshire area health authority are slightly above the national average but are falling steadily. In the present difficult circumstances in the National Health Service, I do not feel justified in asking the regional health authority for a special report, but I shall shortly be considering this and other aspects of its regional strategic plan.
