HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 cc17-8W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the departmental documents which have been withheld from the Public Record Office because they contain passing references to security but which are now to be released to the Public Record Office.

Mr. Luard

A very small proportion of the departmental records created in the years immediately following the 1939–45 war and selected for permanent preservation was withheld because they contained references to certain organisations. Where there is no other reason for withholding such documents which are outside the "closed" period for public records, they will be transferred to the Public Record Office for release. The documents themselves cannot be identified until the necessary reviewing arrangements can be completed which will be done as quickly as possible.
