asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to announce his decision on the future designation of status of the A283.

My right hon. Friend's conclusions about A283 will form part of his decisions on the Surrey and West Sussex structure plans.

The examination in public of the Surrey structure plan took place at the end of last year. The examination of the West Sussex plan will begin on 13 February. My right hon. Friend is unlikely to be able to make any announcement about the A283 until towards the end of this year.
