HC Deb 01 February 1979 vol 961 c497W
15. Mr. Ernest G. Perry

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how he sees rural planning policy developing following the Cockroft report.

Mr. Carter

I anticipate that the adoption of the new rural planning policy I announced on 29 November will make it easier for people who wish to live in rural areas to obtain planning permission for single houses. In addition, it will also be easier for small firms, especially those involved with agriculture, to obtain planning approval.

In some areas of Northern Ireland tight control will continue to be exercised over development to prevent urban sprawl and ribbon development and to protect important amenity areas.
