HC Deb 21 December 1979 vol 976 c469W
Mr. Edward Lyons

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will institute a publicity campaign to spread awareness among leading retail distributors of the damage caused to the United Kingdom economy and to its textile industry in particular by their increased importation of woven articles in the current year.

Mr. Parkinson

I have no doubt that retail distributors are well aware of the importance of their decisions for United Kingdom industry. But such publicity would be a suitable activity for the sector working parties serving the textile and clothing industry, some of which have set up machinery for co-operation between manufacturers and retailers.
