§ Mr. StanleyHousing investment programme allocations for 1980–81 have not yet been issued. For 1978–79 HIP allocations, a provisional allocation was made to Manchester in January 1978 of £51.1 million. This was increased to a final allocation of £52.2 million in May.

§ Mr. KingThe block allocations to the Manchester-Salford inner city partnership since it began in 1978–79 have been as follows:
1978–79 £2.5 million at September 1977 prices for the inner and outer areas;
1979–80 £11.8 million at November 1978 prices for the inner area only;
1980–81 £12.37 million at November 1978 prices for the inner and outer areas.
In 1979–80 projects in the outer area were funded as part of the traditional urban programme, and funding for 535W Operation Clean Up was provided separately from the block allocation to the partnership.

Mr. Stanley: Up-to-date estimates of the number of council house tenants are not available. From housing investment programme returns made by the city of Manchester and other districts within the Greater Manchester area it is estimated that, in April 1979, there were 83,000 local authority dwellings within the city of Manchester, and 306,000 within the Greater Manchester area. The estimate for Greater Manchester excludes dwellings owned by the city of Manchester but situated in other districts in the Greater Manchester area. The number of tenants would be somewhat less as not all dwellings would be occupied.
