asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received about the effect of cuts in public expenditure on school transport for pupils attending denominational schools; what effect his policy is likely to have on education in these schools; and if he will make a statement.

As to the first part of the question, I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Nuneaton (Mr. Huckfield) on 18 December. As regards the second part, my right hon. and learned Friend's policy of concentrating the necessary reductions0 in net expenditure on non-educational services is intended to safeguard the quality of the teaching provided in all maintained schools.
