§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the amount of energy used in the manufacture of methanol and ammonia from coal as compared with that from natural gas.
§ Mr. John MooreA similar amount of energy is required to manufacture either methanol or ammonia. Typical plants now operating require 430 therms of natural gas per tonne of product, or if based on coal 590 therms per tonne. New 293W plants, incorporating the latest process developments, might reduce the total energy consumption to 290 therms of natural gas or 440 therms of coal.
