How many field monument wardens have been appointed; where were they first appointed; what are their duties and what is their approximate cost in the current financial year.

Twenty-one field monument wardens were appointed in England on 27th November, 1978. Twenty wardens are currently in post.

Wardens are part-time employees, whose duties are to monitor the condition of scheduled field monuments by visiting them, talking to the owners and occupiers of the sites and reporting their findings.

The approximate total cost of wardens in this financial year will be £32,000.
