HC Deb 17 December 1979 vol 976 c69W
Mr. Jim Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if regular tests are carried out on the buildings in and around the Palace of Westminster to measure the effect of vibration caused by the increasing volume of road traffic; and, if so, what are the results of the tests.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

Monitoring tests to detect movement using strain gauges are carried out at six-monthly intervals in the area of Westminster Hall, St. Stephen's Chapel and the Clock Tower. Readings show that there has been virtually no movement.
