HC Deb 17 December 1979 vol 976 c11W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimate he has made of the average marginal cost of a higher education place for an overseas student at a United Kingdom university.

Dr. Boyson

Marginal costs depend on the availability of places on individual courses and vary widely. For a given course, the gross marginal cost of an overseas student is indistinguishable from that of a home student. No estimate of the range of marginal costs has been made, but the average marginal cost for overseas students is likely to be close to the average recurrent unit cost for all students of about£2,700 at current prices.
