HC Deb 17 December 1979 vol 976 cc36-7W
41. Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what proportion of British exports go to countries (a) which use the metric system, (b) which are changing to the metric system and (c) which have no plans to change to the metric system.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

In 1978, 66.8 per cent. of United Kingdom exports went to countries which use the metric system; 32.8 per cent. went to countries which are in the process of changing but for which no firm date for the change has been set; and 0.4 per cent. to countries which, at present, have no plans to change to the metric system.
