§ Mr. WhitelawMr. Wilkinson, a prisoner at Manchester prison, began to refuse food and drink on 19 November. He was seen by the medical staff at the prison and by a consultant psychiatrist and he was warned of the consequences of failing to take food or drink. He was transferred to the hospital wing of Liverpool prison on 4 December and died on 5 December. An inquest into Mr. Wilkinson's death opened on 10 December and was adjourned until 16 January 1980.
