Lord INGLEWOODasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will appoint two independent members to the Police Advisory 1434WA Board on the lines of the recommendation in the May Report on the Prison Service.
§ Lord BELSTEADThe Police Advisory Board has the statutory function of advising the Home Secretary on general questions affecting the police. This is different from the Prisons Board, which exercises direct executive control over the Prison Service. The membership of the Police Advisory Board is drawn from the organisations representing the police service. My right honourable friend is not persuaded that there is any need to appoint independent members to the Police Advisory Board.
Lord INGLEWOODasked Her Majesty's Government:
How many times the full Police Advisory Board has met since 22nd March 1977; and what were the dates of such meetings.
§ Lord BELSTEADOnce, on 28th November 1979.
House adjourned at nine minutes past six o'clock.
