HC Deb 12 December 1979 vol 975 cc672-4W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many students have been accepted into courses at each teacher's training college in Scotland for the session 1979–80 leading to a teaching qualification, secondary education; and what is the breakdown per subject.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The numbers of students admitted to courses of secondary teacher training at the beginning of session 1979–80 are set out in the table below. In addition, some 145 BEd students were admitted to colleges of education; these students will not need to decide until the beginning of session 1980–81 whether they will pursue courses leading to primary or secondary teaching qualifications, or, in the case of secondary courses, which will be their specialist subjects.
