§ Miss Joan Lestorasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what advice is given to parents registering a child born as a result of artificial insemination by donor as to the legal requirements relating to parenthood.
§ Sir George YoungI have been asked to reply.
At birth registration, the registrar asks for the names of the father and mother of the child and it is the informant's responsibility to give the information to the best of his or her knowledge and belief. Advice about the legal status of any child that may be born following artificial insemination by a donor should be given to the mother and her husband by their medical or legal advisers.
