§ Mr. Michael Brownasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he is satisfied 411W with the current level of imports of steel and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ParkinsonIn 1977 and 1978 the United Kingdom was a net exporter of steel: we hope that in 1979 a favourable balance will again be achieved. As I made clear in my reply to my hon. Friend on 5 July, we hope that in this as in other industrial sectors there will be both growth in exports and progressive displacement of imports by an increasing supply of competitive products from the domestic industry.
