§ Mr. Rookerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if there is any existing statutory liability for maintenance on relatives already resident of people admitted for settlement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerFor supplementary benefit purposes, which I assume the hon. Member has in mind, husband and wife are liable for the maintenance of each other and parents are liable for the main-68W tenance of their children under the age of 16. These liabilities apply to people already resident in respect of relatives admitted for settlement in the same way as they apply to relatives already resident. There is no existing liability for other relatives who are admitted for settlement as dependants of residents in the United Kingdom.
