Mr. Leighton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will circulate in the Official Report a table showing the balance of trade with the EEC Six and the EEC Eight in invisible transactions showing the total, the balance on insurance and freight, and the amount of the United Kingdom contribution to the EEC budget for the years 1970 to 1978 and in the current year to date.

[pursuant to his reply, 29 November 1979, c. 780–81]: The available information on invisible transactions between the United Kingdom and the other eight member countries and the institutions of the European Communities for the years 1973 to 1978 is published in table 14.1 of "United Kingdom Balance of Payments, 1979 Edition"—Pink Book—a copy of which is available in the Library. Comprehensive figures for 1979 to date are not yet available.

Estimates for years before 1973 of transactions with the other eight members of the Communities, and of transactions with the original six member countries, are not available.

The amount of the United Kingdom's contributions, net of public sector receipts, to the Communities' budget since joining on 1 January 1973 has been as follows:
