§ Mr. MarksMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has no reserved powers for signposting footpaths. Section 27(5) of the 1968 Act provides that, with the consent of the highway authority, any person may erect and maintain signposts and waymarks along a public path. This enables such work to be carried out by landowners, amenity societies and others, but the Secretary of State has no plans for seeking consent.
