HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc863-4W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his policy regarding the sale by local authorities to private developers of unlettable tower blocks in inner city areas such as Liverpool.

Mr. Armstrong

My right hon. Friend would consider on its merits any application which might be made for special consent for the disposal of such property.

Mr. Marks

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has no reserved powers for signposting footpaths. Section 27(5) of the 1968 Act provides that, with the consent of the highway authority, any person may erect and maintain signposts and waymarks along a public path. This enables such work to be carried out by landowners, amenity societies and others, but the Secretary of State has no plans for seeking consent.
