§ Mr. Buchananasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will 718W announce her plans for the continuation of special arrangements to encourage the training and retraining of teachers in certain shortage subjects.
§ Mr. OakesThe present arrangements under which special grants and awards are available for people training or retraining to become secondary specialist teachers of mathematics, the physical sciences, and craft, design and technology will continue for a further two years, 1979–81. They have already been successful in increasing the numbers of teachers of these subjects. In addition, they will be extended to include training and retraining to teach business studies, and further training in mathematics and the physical sciences to enable primary and secondary school teachers to improve their skills in these subjects.
