HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc832-3W
Mr. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what were the losses per tonne made by the steel industry at the latest date for which figures are available arranged in descending order of magnitude in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Japan, West Germany, France and other EEC countries.

Mr. Kaufman

The information as requested is not available. However, figures comparing the losses of the British Steel Corporation with six of the major EEC producers are given in "Strategy for Steel-Summary of the 1979 Progress Report of the Iron and Steel Sector Working Party" of the National Economic Development Council which is being published today and will be available in the Library of the House of Commons.
