HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc731-2W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why Sir Shapoor Reporter, an Indian citizen with a British passport, is allowed free entry and stay in Great Britain, whereas other Indian nationals in similar circumstances have been prevented from entry; and what discussions he has had with Sir Shapoor Reporter.

Mr. Judd

As a result of his naturalisation in 1955, Sir Shapoor Reporter has a right of abode in the United King- dom under article 2(1)(a) of the Immigration Act 1971. A similar right of abode would attach to any other person acquiring citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies by naturalisation in the United Kingdom. My right hon. Friend has had no discussions with Sir Shapoor Reporter.
