HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc780-1W
Mr. Pattie

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list by rank the number of officers and men in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force who have been made redundant since 1 April 1974.

Mr. Wellbeloved,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23 March 1979; Vol. 964, c. 777], gave the following answer:

The period since 1 April 1974 covers the currency of two redundancy schemes, the first, for the RAF only, introduced in 1973 and the second in 1975 following the defence review for all three Services.

The total numbers of officers and men in the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force who have been made redundant under these two schemes therefore is as follows:

Total
Royal Navy
Commanders 50
Royal Air Force
Group Captains 23
Wing Commanders 84
Squadron Leaders 277
Flight Lieutenants 397
Flying Officers 2
Airmen Aircrew 101
Warrant Officers 42
Flight Sergeants 72
Chief Technicians 1,358
Sergeants 198
