HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc819-20W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether, in view of the changed circumstances of the several announcements of increases in pay and allowances of public servants as made on 3 March, he will now agree to arrange to pay the 9 per cent. increases to hon. Members.

Mr. Foot

As I explained to my hon. Friend in my replies of 12 March [Official Report, Vol. 964, c. 5] and 29 March [Official Report, Vol. 965, c. 310] and in my recent letter to him, Members' salaries are not due to be increased until June. As to the size of any increase then due, I do not think it would be right to speculate about this in advance of the forthcoming TSRB Report.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council when he expects to receive the Boyle committee report on hon. Members' salaries; and whether he will try to obtain it before the forthcoming Dissolution of Parliament.

Mr. Foot

This is a matter for the review body. However, as previously made clear [official Report, Vol.964, c. 802], the review body is aware of the urgency behind the reference.
