asked Her Majesty's Government:

When their enquiries on lead will report; whether the reports will be published; who are the members of the working parties and what are their qualifications.

The report of the working party appointed by my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Social Services to review the overall effect on health of environmental lead from all sources will be published, although no firm estimate can yet be made of when they will report. The working party's members and qualifications are:—

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Transport expects to receive in May an initial assessment of the costs of possible further action to limit lead emissions from petrol engined vehicles. The assessment, which will be published, will be based on studies by officials from the Departments of Transport, Energy, Environment and Industry, assisted by representatives of major oil companies and motor manufacturing interests.
