asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many acres of derelict land were recorded in England and Wales at the latest available date.

Returns by local authorities for the 1974 derelict land survey showed that on 1 April 1974 there were 106,884 acres of derelict land in England. It is estimated that on 31 December 1978 there were 33,900 acres of derelict land in Wales.
