asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the increase in public expenditure at the latest available date, expressed as a percentage in real terms over the comparable figure five years earlier.

Mr. Joel Barnett,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 30 March 1979; Vol. 965, c. 378], gave the following answer:

The growth in the outturn of the planning total at 1978 survey prices between 1973–74 and 1978–79 as indicated in "The Government's Expenditure Plans 1979–80 to 1982–83" is 4½ per cent.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will amend legislation to avoid the taxation as income of EEC grants paid to farmers who change from milk to beef production.
