asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how the provision of hospital beds, hospital consultants and general practitioners for the population of the West Midlands compares with that of other areas.

In 1977, the latest year for which complete information is available, the average daily available beds per 1,000 population, the senior medical and dental staff—whole time equivalent—per 1,000 available beds, and the general practitioners per 1,000 population were respectively 7.2, 35.0 and 0.43 in the West Midlands region compared with 8.1, 36.3 and 0.45 in England.
